Hey everyone.

Do keep in mind that small grammatical and/or spelling mistakes might exist, English is not my native language.

Also regardless of which Design Document is used, I suggest we use Gabriela's nation system, as I found them strangely suitable to the story I had in mind.

Project name: Century of War

Story Architecture: Simple / Divided

Story Type: Alternate History / Modern

Setting

This land was once peaceful….

This land was once lush and beautiful, where children could frolic without their parent worrying about them coming back home. Where elderly could sit back and enjoy the remainder of their days without fearing that the inevitable end might come sooner than expected.

A humble place, a noble one; we didn’t have much at the time, but we had peace and that was all that mattered.

But all good things must come to an end, and ours came swiftly. We were all simple farmers, hard workers yes, but we weren’t technicians or engineers. We didn’t philosophize about the outside world because we had no need for it. However, this time the lack of curiosity killed the cat. We were utterly oblivious to the fact that our land was worth more than all of our lives combined. Our land was filled with more riches than we could fathom in our wildest dreams. We were oblivious…but they weren’t.

One day, it all ended. As if our peaceful lives were just a dream, and now we are left to accept that we will never have that peace again.

The invaders arrived on a bright and sunny day, like they were warning us that all we had could be taken away from us whenever they willed it. They did not care for animal nor human life, plants or pastures, they crushed everything. No amount of noble goals could justify the destruction of our home, of the place we grew up in, lived in, died in.

At first we taught it was one army, but little did we know that there were a lot, lot more. In turns out we were in the middle of a great war, a war that has been going on for generations, and our land was in the middle of it all. The outside forces believed that this land was unoccupied and that the resources gathered here could swing the tide of the war in the oppressors favor.

Soon most of my kind was either dead or soldered. The happy families disappeared, the children vanished, the elderly moved on. All that was left…was a battlefield…

Playable Nations

Free States of the North (FSN)

Playing Style: Aggressive

Card Specialty: Unit Based

Brief History: The FSN was formed at the end of the 20th Century. After the Moon Landing in 1969, the states of North America found it imperative to continue their space research. This in turn led to increased taxes, as the project was the most expensive one to date. The pressure was also increased due to the fact that the SRL were getting a foothold in the technology needed to explore the Moon in its fullest.

The government paranoia only increased once the SRL managed to do several successful landings, making their first landing irrelevant, since the SRL were managing to get more out of the Moon.

At this time North America was panicking, their economy was slowly crumbling due to the huge expense that the Moon project required. And they saw the Moon as their savior out of this crisis.

Having very little choice, the North American countries decided to unite under one nation, and so the Free States of the North came to being. Their objectives were simple, use their combined power to take the initiative and conquer the Moon and all it had to offer.

Little did they know that the Moon’s resources were few and valueless, and the little resources that could be found on the Moon were being taken by the SRL.

Fearing for their survival, and a possible bankrupt, the FSN decided to halt all space research and focus on their military instead. Soon they managed to stabilize and get a grip on their own economy. The need for the FSN was becoming less and less relevant, and the individual countries were starting to think about returning to the way things were. Until a strange island was discovered in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The experts had no idea how this island could have stayed hidden from the world for so long.

But one thing was for certain, the island contained enough resources that the nation that managed to conquer said island would have world supremacy. Knowing this the FSN decided it was imperative that they stayed together.

They were the second nation to invade.

Fraternidad Comunista del Sur (Communist Brotherhood of the South) (FCS)

Playing Style: Passive

Card Specialty: Building Based

Brie History: The FCS was one of the first major economic and political unions of nations established after WWI.

The events that had expired had left the world poor and broken. Although the nations of the soon-to-be FCS were not the ones that were hit the hardest by the war, they saw an opportunity to become leaders for once.

Soon after WWI the FCS was established. They focused on production and improving the economy of their citizens, rather than militarizing their nation.

Decades passed and the FCS was becoming a clear Super Power, one that had the means to control world economy. Their southern neighbors saw this as an act of oppression, and decided to establish their own union in the form of Estados Livres do Sul (Free States of the South).

The two Nations were in constant bickering over the most insignificant of things. Soon fearing from the sudden militarization of their southern neighbors, the FCS realized that they might not be able to withstand a full on war with the ELS. Knowing this they decided to use their monetary advantage to negotiate a weapons deal with the African Republic, preparing for the inevitable conflict with the ELS.

However, the conflict in question happened in Europe, and soon WWII began.

Seeing this as an opportunity both the FCS and ELS decided to stay out of the war and profit from the other countries in need. And after WWII ended, they found themselves in a very comfortable position. Especially the FCS, that had managed to become an economic leader.

The misunderstandings between the FCS and ELS ceased, as they both understood the consequences of war and how it compromised their new found supremacy.

Even when a mysterious island appeared in the middle of the Pacific, the FCS, unlike their southern neighbors, was not all that concerned with it. However they soon realized that the entire world had taken interest in these new undiscovered lands, and they knew that if they didn’t join the fray they would be left behind.

They were the last nation to invade.

Estados Livres do Sul (Free States of the South) (ELS)

Playing Style: Aggressive

Card Specialty: Unit Based

Brief History: The ELS was created out of pure necessity. The former nations of the ELS realized the position that they were in once their northern neighbors started to get a grip on world economy. Seeing as none of them were willing to join the FCS because of a conflict in interests, they went with the old adage of “The enemy of my enemy is my friend.” And so the ELS was created.

Regardless of how unstable the formation of the ELS was, their actions were well thought out. Knowing the economic power of their rivals, they knew that they couldn’t compete with that. So a decision was made to focus more on becoming a strong militaristic nation.

Because of the fact that they refused to associate with the FCS, their economy started to suffer. ELS was almost always near the edge of bankrupt, but never crossing over it. Even their military progression started to stagnate because of the bad shape that they were in.

They were at the brink of war with the FCS when WWII started. Even though they were pretty confident in taking on their northern neighbors, they realized that their military could not withstand the full brunt of a war with this magnitude. So it was imperative that they stayed out of the war, and focused on making the lives of their citizens better.

Once WWII had ended, the two South American Super Nations were in a pretty good position. The ELS, now much more mature than before, stopped bickering and decided that they would try and work together with the FCS, to insure the steady growth of both.

But one day, a mysterious island appeared out of nowhere in the Pacific Ocean. The entire world was shocked and puzzled as to how this place came into being. Moreover, this place had enough resources to insure that the owner of said resources would have a firm grip on the shape of this planet.

The ELS eager to advance even more, speared on by the fact that the FSN had already started their voyage, and by the surprising caution of the FCS, they decided that the ELS would march onto this new unexplored land in full force.

They were the third nation to invade.

European Association of Nations (EAN)

Playing Style: Defensive

Card Specialty: Technology Based

Brief History: The European Association of Nations was created shortly after WWII, and it consists of all the European countries.

Europe was strongly affected by the war, many had lost everything, and the continent was deep in poverty.

Knowing their dire position, a lot of the European nations created small pacts and comities that helped them get over their slump in power. But ultimately they knew that the only way to reconsolidate the damage was if they all worked together. Being even was not enough anymore, the world had shaped itself in such a way that if you weren’t at the top then you were at the bottom, and there was no middle ground to be found. And so, the EAN was created.

After a mere couple of decades, and once the riled up losers of WWII calmed down, the EAN really started to hit their stride, quickly becoming a technological leader.

The populous was most interested in the technical fields, knowing this the government decided to invest in said fields, and sure enough the number of technical experts only increased. And the pace of technological development was always steady and on point, making the EAN rather formidable.

And even their technological prowess couldn’t find the answer to how an island just appeared in the middle of the Pacific. If there was one nation that tried to explain it, it was the EAN. But no number of scientists and technicians could make sense of it.

However one thing was for certain, the other nations were too eager to get their grubby hands on what lied in this mysterious new place. And so, the EAN decided that the only way the world was going to get some answers, was if they found them out. And the only way to do that now was to investigate the island directly.

They were the fourth nation to invade.

Tuareg Republic (TR)

Playing Style: Aggressive

Card Specialty: Unit Based

Brief History: The Taureg Republic at one time encompassed the whole of Africa, similar to how the EAN encompasses the whole of Europe. It was established during the economic crisis of the early 30s, and was rules by dictators, criminals and all around bad men.

Its very creation was forced by many organizations. Organizations that wanted to benefit from the untapped resources that the African tribes had. The need for such resources only increased with the crisis. And so powerful people decided to exploit the continent for all it’s worth.

However, WWII managed to split up the then existing TR into two nations, with the northern half being the remains of the TR, and the southern half being the African Republic. This was caused due to a massive rebellion of the southern populous. The people of the now existing AR, were brave enough to stand up against their corrupt government, and did not want to participate in the war.

After WWII ended, many thought that the TR would crumble. But the predicted rebellion that followed did not break the nation up. With the creation of the EAN, and the already seen success of the FCS, TR somehow managed to still remain as a nation, if only slightly. After many years of bloodshed, the nation finally started to get up on its feet.

The people that wished to abuse power for personal gain were far gone, and the newly elected government still showed signs of the barbarian attitude that the TR were feared for, but they also showed the smarts to make the nation more tourist friendly. This transition was hard, but with it came the necessary monetary boost that the nation needed.

So when an unknown island was discovered, the greedy minds of the TR could not resist its allure.

They were the seventh to invade.

African Republic (AR)

Playing Style: Aggressive

Card Specialty: Technology Based

Brief History: The African Republic was once the southern half of the Tuareg Republic. At the time the TR was known to have a corrupt government that had an agenda for power. The people from the southern parts of the continent did not want any part in it from the start, but they lacked the means to oppose the creation of the African Super Nation.

However once WWII started they saw their opportunity and strived for independence. After the rather bloody rebellion, the southern half of the TR split into what is now known as the AR.

The AR government having seen the power of war, and how war influences world economy, decided to start focusing on weapon manufacturing and started to sell weapons to countries that were in need of them for one reason or another.

While not as blood thirsty as their northern counterpart, the AR still wanted to prove themselves to their northern neighbors, and with doing so wanted to claim Africa as their own. Seeing as how the TR was only now getting a grip on their economy, the AR planned a surprise attack on the Tuareg Republic but the unexpected discovery of a mysterious island put a stop to their plans.

Not knowing what to do, the AR continued to make high end weapons and waited to see how the rest of the world would react to this phenomenon. However, once the TR decided that they were invading the island the AR saw no other option but to follow them. If they weren’t going to defeat them in Africa, they were going to do it in this newly discovered island.

They were the eight to invade.

Muslim Martyrs of the Prophet (MMP)

Playing Style: Defensive

Card Specialty: Building Based

Brief History: The Muslim nations for the most part lived in peace. Neither WWI nor WWII had any big impact on them. They relied on their farmers to provide the necessary sustenance to survive, and their architects provided the monuments to attract tourists.

When WWII ended, much of the world found itself in poverty. And while the Muslim nations had left unscaved from the war for the most part, their life blood had been cut out from them, tourism.

Because the rest of the world was having such a hard time adapting to the happenings that occurred during the war, tourism was at an all-time low, and the economy of most of the Muslim nations started to struggle.

But once the post war syndrome had subsided, their situation returned to normal. Until an island appeared in the middle of the Pacific, and the nations were left both speechless and frightened. Being very religious they did not know what this meant, they started to make all manner of implications, and their imagination went wild.

They knew one thing for certain though, the rest of the world was very eager to explore this new land, and the Muslim nations did not know how to react to this. Seeing their unique position, they arranged a meeting. And on this meeting the decision was made for them to join forces and form the Muslim Martyrs of the Prophet, with the soul intention of defending this new found holy land thinking that it was a gift sent from the prophet to aid them.

They were the tenth to invade.

Slavyanskikh Respublik Lyudi (Slavic People Republic) (SRL)

Playing Style: Aggressive

Card Specialty: Technology Based

Brief History: The SRL Was formed for the intention of winning WWII. They found that people with similar ideals held power, and this very idea inspired the creation of the biggest nation on the planet.

Once WWII had ended, they saw no need in disbanding the nation, when they knew that they could remain the super power that they were for hundreds of generations. They now saw a new objective, the Moon.

However they weren’t the only ones that were interested in the Moon, the FSN was also rather curious when it came to Earth’s satellite. The SRL worked tireously on making the journey to the Moon as safe and as reliable as possible. However this extended research came back to bite them as the FSN had already managed to land on the Moon before they did.

But it seemed that their research into a more stable technology paid off, as they were able to achieve a more constant number of shuttle departures than the FSN. However, apart from information, the resources that could be found on the Moon were very scares. And the money that was being sank into the space project started to put the nation into a dire position.

On the brink of disbanding from their current model of governing, the SRL heard that the HD had discovered a new island in the Pacific Ocean. The SRL satellites also confirmed that the resources that could be found on said island were priceless.

After many scans the SRL decided to follow in the footsteps of those who had already laid claim to the island, and invade.

They were the fifth nation to invade.

Huánghé Dìguó (Yellow River Empire) (HD)

Playing Style: Passive

Card Specialty: Technology Based

Brief History: The HD was established after WWII. The western parts of the HD had fallen on hard times and were constantly falling in depth to the FCS. Seeking refuge from their crisis the western nations proposed a union to be made with the eastern nations. The nations saw the power that the FCS held over world economy, and they decided that a joining of forces was in order.

Being very tech savvy, the HD was known to have an outlandish tradition when it came to technology. They were constantly looking for new ways in how to do the most mundane tasks. However their supreme supremacy in technology led to them having the fastest growing number of technical experts in the history of mankind, with the EAN and SRL falling shortly behind.

HD soon decided to start a project named the “Pacific Explorer”. Using advanced submarines, equipped with the latest in underwater computer technology, they found out countless of small islands that could serve them.

But one day one of the submarines discovered something that they thought was impossible. The HD “Pacific Explorer” project had managed to stumble across an enormous island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. How they missed this island was a mystery, for they themselves were as puzzled as the rest of the world.

However, while the rest of the world was theorizing about the island, the HD decided to take action and explore this newly found land for themselves. Shortly after other nations did the same.

They were the first nation to invade.

Sera Ga?habandhana (The Lion Alliance) (SG)

Playing Style: Passive

Card Specialty: Building Based

Brief History: The SG was one of the later formed Super Nations. Because of the fact that most of the nations that it encompassed were third world countries, they did not have the adage that was required to create such an alliance.

However in the later decades of the 20th century, the populous realized that the world was moving into a Super Nation oriented future, and if they didn’t get with the times, they would fall under another. Moreover, most of the nations of the now known Lion Alliance were colonies, and they did not want to become anything close to a colony ever again.

Knowing that it would be hard the nations asked for help from their two strong neighbors, the HD and the SWA. Never having trouble with any of them they were kind enough to lend a helping hand to this newly formed alliance.

They found their footing in the many farmers that they had. The people that lived in The Lion Alliance were excellent builders, and somehow this rag tag group of nations found themselves in a position of power. They, did however, owe a significant chunk of money to their neighbors.

Being a pride-driven nation, they wanted to settle their debt once and for all, and look towards the future. And that opportunity showed itself in the form of a newly found island somewhere in the Pacific Ocean.

Seeing that almost every other nation had already decided to invade, the SG knew that it was all or nothing for them. And so they reluctantly decided and they too would search the island.

They were the ninth to invade.

Southern Wealth Alliance (SWA)

Playing Style: Defensive

Card Specialty: Unit Based

Brief History: The Southern Wealth Alliance was the second Super Nation to be established, following the establishment of the FCS. The SWA was tired of western politics and wanted to move away from everything associated with them.

They first signed a military pact that later on became a full-fledged Alliance. However their military might was never needed, as they were so far off from the rest of the world that they did not participate in WWII, or any other conflict for that matter.

They did not have to rely on anyone else either, as they had everything they needed within their own boarders. So they only delved into small trades with the SG, more to help them out rather than anything else. Moreover, because they had such a strong military foothold plus the great economy, they felt that they were the strongest nation in the world, and many others shared that idea as well.

But when a mysterious island was discovered in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, a lot of the nations’ saw this as an opportunity to further themselves in the world standings. The SWA however saw this as the final trial they had to leap through in order to cement their dominance on the world.

Of course they bided their time, saw how the situation would unfold, and once a significant chunk of the world Super Nations invaded this newly found land, they decided it was time that they two threw their number in the hat and invaded.

They were the sixth to invade.
